Why I’m Taking Artists to Africa (and How You Can Join Me)

Travel. Paint. Connect. Zimbabwe Awaits — Book Before July 15!

Dear Reader,

When a friend working at the U.S. Embassy in Harare invited me to visit Zimbabwe, I knew immediately—I wanted to share the experience with others.

As an artist and teacher, I’ve led groups on retreats before and discovered just how powerful it can be to explore the world while creating art together. The idea of painting beside elephants, watching Victoria Falls crash into the canyon below, and connecting with the vibrant people of Zimbabwe felt like magic. So I said yes—and began crafting this journey.

Now, I’m inviting you to join me.

This November, I’m leading a small group of artists and adventurers to experience the incredible beauty and soul of Zimbabwe. Whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush or you’re a seasoned painter, you’re welcome here. I’ll guide you every step of the way—from gentle meditative warm-ups to plein air painting in extraordinary settings.

But this trip is about more than art.

One of the most meaningful parts of this retreat will be a community service project—we’ll spend time painting colorful murals for a local classroom, bringing beauty and creativity into a learning space for children. It’s a chance to give back, connect, and leave a small piece of ourselves in Zimbabwe.

What’s Included in This Journey:

  • Visit Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World (Mosi-oa-Tunya – "The Smoke that Thunders")
  • Safari in Hwange National Park, home to elephants, lions, giraffes, and more
  • Opportunities to paint daily, no experience needed
  • Meditative warm-ups to get the creative energy flowing
  • A meaningful service project painting a classroom mural for a local school
  • No currency exchange hassle – Zimbabwe uses U.S. dollars
  • Warm, personal guidance from our experienced local guide, who knows the country and its people deeply
  • Pre-trip Zoom calls so we can get to know each other and prepare together
  • Non-painting partners welcome – there’s plenty for them to enjoy too!

We’ll gather in Johannesburg, where you’ll be met and taken to a comfortable hotel. The next morning, a guide will accompany us to the airport, and we’ll fly as a group to Victoria Falls where the adventure truly begins.

💥 Act Fast – Prices Go Up July 15!

  • Artists: $6017 USD (goes up to $6517 on July 15)
  • Non-painting partners: $5517 USD (goes up to $6017 on July 15)

This is a rare chance to travel with intention, connect through creativity, and be changed by the land and its people. The group is small, so you’ll receive plenty of personal attention and support.

If you’ve ever dreamed of painting in Africa… this is the time. Plus imagine all the reference images you will bring home!

I’d love to answer any questions you have. Let me know if you’re interested or want to learn more.

With excitement,
Leslie

Vitamin See: The Creative Nutrient You Didn’t Know You Needed Dear Reader, Yesterday, my morning walk took longer than usual—not because I was going farther, but because I was seeing more. The early light was especially beautiful, casting long shadows and golden glows on the simplest things: a weathered fence post, dew on the grass, the edges of leaves. I kept pausing, letting my eyes linger. Letting myself notice. That’s when I realized—I was taking my daily dose of Vitamin See. This isn’t a...
