Hello Reader, One of the greatest joys of summer is spending time at our cabin on a lake in Northeast Washington. Every morning and evening, the light changes, the mist drifts across the water, and familiar scenes become something entirely new. I've spent many quiet hours capturing those moments in watercolor, and today I'd love to share a few of them with you. As a subscriber, you're getting an exclusive first look at a selection of original lake paintings before I announce my Summer Studio Sale publicly. The Deep End, 24x36", poured watercolor on panel There is a place on every lake where the shoreline quietly gives way to deeper water. The light changes. Reflections become richer. Colors shift from warm gold to cool turquoise, and the surface begins to hold mysteries you can't quite see beneath. This painting was inspired by one of those evenings when the last rays of sunlight set the shoreline ablaze while the deeper water absorbed every color around it. The contrast between brilliant light and quiet depth stopped me in my tracks. It reminded me that some of life's most beautiful moments happen when we're willing to venture beyond the familiar—to leave the shallows behind and discover what waits in deeper water. For me, The Deep End isn't just about a place on a lake. It's about that invitation to pause, to reflect, and to find beauty where the water—and life—runs a little deeper. Lake Life, 8x10", watercolor mounted on panelThis painting, painted en plein air on location, captures the fresh light breaking through the evergreens after a cool morning. Mist lingers over the water while the shoreline begins to glow. It's one of those fleeting moments that seems to disappear almost as quickly as it arrives. Twilight Watch, 5x7", watercolor mounted on panelOne of my favorite visitors to the lake is the great blue heron. This peaceful monochromatic study celebrates the quiet solitude of those early mornings when the lake is still and every sound seems amplified. These are just three of the original paintings available during my Summer Studio Sale. And this is just the beginning. . . These are only a few of the original lake paintings available in my Summer Studio Sale.
